i dialed this show from November 11, 1967 at the Shrine in L.A. in on the IPOD last night and was blown away --

you start going round with 1973 or spend a few days relishing late 1976, take an excursion into 1981 for a taste of that squishy electric early Brent sound and it is easy to forget how great the band sounded in the rough and ready early days! did they blow amps every night?

i don't know if this is the whole show but what we get is TOP SHELF:

Viola Lee Blues, It Hurts Me Too, Beat It On Down The Line, Morning Dew, Good Morning Little School Girl, Alligator-> Drums-> Alligator-> Caution (Do Not Stop on Tracks)

OH, and DON'T OVERLOOK the utterly RARE 8 MINUTE NEAL CASSADY RAP -- this is the whole package folks -- where's my time machine? sugar cubes anyone?

thanks a lot Grateful Dead - i had made all the way up to 1977 -- and now i have to go start all over again....

Ever read Kesey's "Garage Sale" which was a bunch of snippets of stuff, but contained the "screenplay" about this era when the band was living down in LA w/ Bear and Ken was on the lam in Mexico? Good stuff - and interesting to hear the soundtrack of those times.

Yep - nothing but milk and meat in the fridge. Tell that to the little hippie chick behind the counter the next time she scowls at you for ordering a sausage slice....

I loved Bear's line about his cancer being due to second hand smoke rather than an all meat diet (don't get me wrong, I am having steak for dinner tonight--seriously!), but just love the rationalizations that go with the territory for anyone with a "cause," meat or no meat...or whatever!
